Career Development
Preparing for today's working world is one of the goals of our "Working Hands" program. It is important for them to know what is expected of them in order to gain success.
Students will learn how to:
conquer the fear of speaking in front of others, communicate clearly
obtain information on subjects or interests, prepare reports
identify the strengths and weaknesses of others
be part of a team set and complete daily goals (organizational skills) control complex situations, compromise recognize employment vocabulary, key words create a resume search for a career (not a job) complete employment forms and initial tests conduct themselves in interviews, evaluations, and salary negotiations improve leadership skills and seek promotions manage personal finances find intern positions which will introduce them to their chosen profession. Entrepreneurial Training Businesses can start with an idea someone has for a needed product or service. Youth should kno that anyone can have an idea, including them. Some entrepreneurs choose to start with an idea someone else had, franchising or taking an existing idea and determining how to make it better. Students in this division of the "Working Hands" program will learn about turning an idea into a strategic long-range business plan advertising/marketing financial management - startup costs, etc. personnel issues types of businesses. They will meet business owners and visit different successful (as well as unsuccessful) businesses. Once they have an understanding of the factors involved in becoming an entrepreneur, they will create plans to start a small business.
